Il doit faire équipe avec un humain afin de gagner le "tournoi" auquel il participe, mais Zatch a perdu la mémoire suite à un mauvais atterrissage dans le monde des humains et est recueilli par le professeur Takamine qui, plus tard, l'enverra à son fils : Kiyomaro. Kiyomaro est un jeune homme intelligent et cultivé, mais qui se désintéresse totalement du système scolaire, et préfère paressé. Son père espère que Zatch pourra le sortir de cet état.
