What it’s about. Les parents de Fabien, neuf ans, habitent dans une caravane car le père est chef de chantier. Cette année 1967, la rentrée scolaire dans une petite ville du Midi est une fois de plus interrompue pour un nouveau départ. La famille s'installe dans le Nord. Pour Fabien, c'est encore une bataille à livrer. De fait, jamais l'école n'a été aussi inhospitalière : brimades, mises en quarantaine, sévices... Fabien ne supporte pas d'être traité de "gitan", de "romanichel". De surcroît, pour les véritables gitans qu'il va rencontrer, il sera le "gadgé", l'étranger, en dépit des liens d'amitié qui se tissent peu à peu. Lentement, toujours rêvant de "faire la paix", Fabien prépare une vengeance qu'il voudrait à la mesure des humiliations subies...
