Elle y arrive après plusieurs mésaventures qui la laissent sans argent et s'y cache sous l'identité d'une jeune veuve, se fondant dans la vie ouvrière du petit peuple parisien. Aidée et prise en sympathie par ses logeurs, les Mabilleau, elle commence une nouvelle vie.
