What it’s about. En automne 1941, à La Rochelle, en France, les Allemands préparent activement le départ de leur flotte sous-marine. Les officiers et les matelots se sont réunis dans une grande salle pour fêter l'événement. Il y a pourtant un homme qui ne participe pas aux réjouissances. Il s'agit du commandant de l'U 96, qui se contente d'observer en silence les nouvelles recrues. Il sait, lui, que la victoire est loin d'être acquise. Effectivement, après quelques jours en mer, l'U 96 entre au coeur de l'action, en essuyant le feu d'un bâtiment ennemi. Un convoi est attaqué ensuite, et plusieurs cargos sont coulés...
