Composée de 11 alpinistes, Robert Paragot (chef d'expédition), Georges Payot, Lucien Berardini, Yannick Seigneur, Claude Jager, Jean-Paul Paris, Jean-Claude Mosca, François Guillot, Bernard Mellet, Robert Jacob et Jacques Marchal (chirurgien), il faudra vingt cinq jours de marche sur les chemins de l'Himalaya avec 460 porteurs et 18 sherpas pour transporter 14 tonnes de matériel pour arriver au camp de base. Finalement c'est Mellet et Seigneur qui réussissent à atteindre le sommet le 23 Mai 1971: 8481 m, température - 30°, oxygène 30 %, vent nul.
