What it’s about. Maggie Patterson, une riche propriétaire terrienne, est éprise de Pete van Allen, un séduisant pilote d'avion. Mais c'est sa rivale, Sandra Novak, une pianiste célèbre, que Pete épouse sur un coup de tête. Peu après, le mariage est déclaré invalide, pour un vice de forme. Pete est tout prêt à repasser devant la loi mais Sandra préfère se consacrer à la préparation d'un concert. Echaudé, Pete se rapproche de Maggie, à qui il rend visite dans sa propriété du Maryland. Il se repend et propose le mariage à Maggie. Celle-ci lui reproche sa versatilité et suggère d'attendre au moins que ses affaires avec Sandra soient éclaircies. Pete accepte alors une périlleuse mission en Amérique du Sud. Son avion disparaît dans la jungle.
