Il lui propose ensuite un emploi “magliaro” vendeur de tissu au porte à porte. Mario accepte et le suit à Hambourg. Là avec d’autres amis de Totonno ils vendent les tissus de M. Mayer, un industriel et homme d’affaires allemand, mais ils ont des problèmes avec un gang de polonais. Mario tombe amoureux de Madame Mayer.
