What it’s about. Condamné autrefois pour un détournement de fonds, John Brent est maintenant directeur d'une compagnie de transport maritime. Mais le sort semble s'acharner contre lui . Sa femme Nicole menace de le quitter. Un ancien dentiste de la prison, Ralph Beldon, le fait chanter en le menaçant de lui faire perdre sa situation. Rentré chez lui, Beldon est surpris par un homme masqué qui l'oblige à participer au vol du coffre-fort de la compagnie maritime. Lorsque John se rend chez Beldon pour lui donner l'argent, le dentiste lui assure qu'il doit le soigner. Profitant de l'anesthésie, il prend un moulage des clés du coffre. Quand l'argent est volé, les soupçons se portent sur John. Ce dernier s'enfuit et mène son enquête, contraignant Beldon à avouer. Il prévient la police. John est libre.
