What it’s about. Divorcé, Gil Renard n'a plus qu'une passion : le base-ball. Il voue un tel culte à ce sport qu'il en néglige son travail de commercial dans la coutellerie familiale. Son idole est Bobby Rayburn, un joueur récemment engagé par son club favori, les San Francisco Giants, avec un contrat faramineux de quarante millions de dollars. Rayburn, cependant, accumule les mauvais résultats. Gil est désorienté. Se pourrait-il que son idole ne soit pas à la hauteur ? Il décide de lui venir en aide coûte que coûte.
