Australian Doctor Who fandom developed in a completely different way to either the British or American experience. In a vast country, half way round the world, with a population of only 20 million (compared to 60 million in Britain and 250 million in the USA), Australian fans were in many ways isolated from the programme they loved and the people who made it.
