Sedikka's son has fallen ill with cholera, after the disease has killed most of her village's inhabitants. She plans to keep him from being quarantined and take care of him herself for six days after which “you heal or you die,” according to the kid's instructor with whom she had an affair. The boy wishes to see the sea, a wish Okka the snake charmer who loves Sedikka will help her achieve.
