The Grey (2012): cast, story & where to watch

Released in 2012, The Grey is an action, thriller, drama and adventure film directed by Joe Carnahan, running about 117 minutes. “Live or Die on This Day” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. Following a grueling five-week shift at an Alaskan oil refinery, workers led by sharpshooter John Ottway, are flying home for a much-needed vacation. But a brutal storm causes their plane to crash in the frozen wilderness, and only eight men, including Ottway, survive. As they trek southward toward civilization and safety, Ottway and his companions must battle mortal injuries, the icy elements, and a pack of hungry wolves.

Who’s in it. The Grey stars Liam Neeson as John Ottway, Dermot Mulroney as Jerome Talget, Frank Grillo as John Diaz and Dallas Roberts as Pete Henrick, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 6.6/10, The Grey has drawn a solid, mixed-to-positive response. It went on to earn $77.3M at the box office.
