What it’s about. Frankreich in den 1970ern: Die ehemalige Tänzerin Vanessa reist mit ihrem Ehemann, dem amerikanischen Schriftsteller Roland, durchs Land. Roland kämpft mit einer Schreibblockade und das desillusionierte Paar mit einer Ehekrise, es driftet auf der Reise immer weiter auseinander. Eines Tages checken Vanessa und Roland in einem Hotel eines ebenso verschlafenen wie malerischen Küstenstädtchens ein. Sie lernen dort Einheimische wie den Inhaber eines kleinen Cafés Michel kennen – und andere Reisende wie Lea und François, die frisch verheiratet sind und im Gegensatz zu Vanessa und Roland ein aktives Sexleben haben. Vanessa und Roland verbringen etwas Zeit mit ihren neuen Bekannten, lockern die Routine aus gegenseitigem Anschweigen und Rolands Trinkabenden etwas auf, ohne ihr wirklich zu entkommen...
